Artist Books

Other worlds. Books offer an alternative realty to experience via a small, often hand-held object. I imagine a world for each book I make. They are guides to imagined places or fragments of an imaginary history. Media: Ink, pencil, watercolor, collage, digital prints on paper; hand bound in limited editions. Altered books: Mixed media on discarded books.

Notebooks

I always carry a notebook with me. Usually I bind my own using whatever paper I find interesting at the moment. Notebook drawing, as I practice it, is something like writing and something like thinking. A drawing takes shape, acquires meaning, not in my mind, but on the sheet of paper. The drawing will not be a representation of something, but is a thing in itself. Some of my drawings are simple flourishes, but once in a while I recognize a special presence on the page, a communication from an unknown source. I will use and re-use such a drawings many times.
